5 Outdoor Living Trends to Transform Your Space in 2023

The days when outdoor living was limited to basic grills and folding chairs are gone. Today, outdoor living has evolved into areas of comfort, style, and functionality. More and more people are seeking to create outdoor environments that reflect the comfort and aesthetics of their indoor spaces, blurring the lines between the two.

According to a survey of home construction experts, here are 5 top 2023 outdoor living trends to inspire you.

1. Indoor-Outdoor Living Areas

Indoor-outdoor living remains a top trend this year according to 73% of the professionals surveyed. Indoor-outdoor living is designed to create a seamless connection between your home and the backyard.

You don’t need to live in California or Florida to incorporate this trend, it can easily be achieved by retrofitting some integrated folding doors. When opened, the folding doors will completely remove one of the walls, and when closed, large glass windows allow you to enjoy the view of the outdoors, regardless of the weather.

Another way to incorporate an indoor-outdoor living area is by covering your patio. Indoor-outdoor spaces can also mean having interior features in an exterior setting, such as fire pits, kitchens, and comfortable furniture so covering your patio can help you enjoy this area even on rainy or very hot summer days.

2. Outdoor Kitchens

As mentioned previously, outdoor kitchens tie into the indoor-outdoor living trend, offering more than your standard grill. Homeowners continue to appreciate their outside living space, and having the means to cook for large family and friend gatherings caters to this.

There are also other benefits such as enjoying the fresh Texan summer nights outdoors and allowing you to cook strong-smelling foods without worrying about odors staying indoors.

3. Upgrading to Upscale Relaxation

With the perfect choice of materials and best features, your backyard can transform into a serene and luxurious space where you can unwind, entertain, and immerse yourself in an atmosphere of upscale relaxation.

Adding tropical plants and features including mood lighting, a cozy fire pit, and comfortable furniture, can achieve the sense of being in a vacation villa right in your backyard. Ultimately, this trend focuses on those who want to make more out of their exterior spaces, and the extent that this is achieved will vary on budget and space.

4. Work From Home Spaces

Since the pandemic, working from home has remained the reality for many of us. With that being said, making the most of the outdoor area to work in is set to be a top trend this year.

As a break away from the typical desk in the spare room, you can set up an outdoor working space by setting up a desk and chair or even incorporating new shed-like structures. For the best results, big, glass patio doors and windows allow you to enjoy the outdoors, without dealing with bugs and changing temperatures. For extra privacy (or to have a break from the sun) you’ll want to install some screens and shades.

5. Natural Stone Tile Flooring

When designing a patio the flooring material is a big decision. It has to match well with the rest of your home, especially if you are looking to create a smooth, cohesive transition from indoors to outdoors. Experts say that natural stone tiles will be the most popular among homeowners in 2023. They come in an array of options and are an elegant, timeless choice that can withstand the harsh weather conditions that a Texan winter can sometimes bring.
