Casement vs Picture Windows 2022

Are you building a home and have not yet decided on the right type of windows for your home? That's easy. Today we bring to you the two types of windows to choose from. These are casement and picture windows. However, to decide on the best type of the two, we're going to compare casement windows with picture window styles below.

Casement  vs Picture Window Style

The main difference between casement windows and picture windows is the design. Casement windows come with hinges that allow you to open and close your windows at your convenience; probably to allow some fresh air into your house. On the other side, picture window just as the name suggests are fixed on to the house and cannot be opened in any way.

Other differences are based on the below factors:

1.Energy efficiency

Casement windows are more energy efficient than picture windows. By opening and closing your windows, you manage the  levels of heat in the house, saving on energy consumption meant to cool and warm your house. This in turn saves you a lot on energy bills.

2.Cost of maintenance

Picture windows are cheaper to maintain than casement windows. You see, picture windows are fixed and that makes them, first, easy to clean. For casement windows, you need spare parts such as hinges,  handles, and sashes that support their operability, which can be costly if they damage on a regular basis.

Note, there are other types of windows apart from casement and picture windows, namely; single-hung  windows and awning windows.

Single hung windows have a lower window panel that opens vertically, with the upper panel stationary. On the other hand, awning windows are operated by pushing out, making them more easy to operate than single-hung windows.

Other differences between awning and single-hung windows are in their energy efficiency and need for open space for operability.

  • Awning windows are more energy efficient than single hung windows. Awning windows have a low-E glass that keeps your house cool in hot periods by keeping the hot air out.
  • In terms of operability, you do not a lot of space outside to open your single hung windows than you will need for awning windows.

Now that you know about the other types of windows that exist. The next question should be when would you need to choose a casement window or a picture window.

When Should I Choose Casement Windows?

Different window styles are chosen for different reasons. Some of the times you might want to choose casement windows include:

  • When looking to save on energy bills. With casement windows do not need  to rely on ACs and heaters because you open the windows when it is warm inside and close them when it your house is cooler.
  • When you are looking for ease of operation. Casement windows are controlled by a one hand crank. The other bits are hinges which on moving the hand crank, they open with up ease.

When Should I Choose Picture Windows?

Picture windows can also be chosen for your home when;

  • You need more light in your house. Being fixed, you can have picture windows more transparent so that they bring more light into your house.
  • You need a better view outside. You make make your picture windows as wide as possible to be able to enjoy the ambiance outside without leaving your house.

Now you know the difference there is between casement windows and picture windows. Casement windows are more energy efficient and easy to operate because they open and close at any desired time. On the other side, picture windows offer you more view of the outside and more light into your house. To save on energy costs and control over the atmosphere, casement windows take first place, although these two styles of windows offer different advantages and limitations.
