Thinking about replacing your fence? Before you add a new fence to your property, you must consider a number of issues. Factors such as cost, durability, maintenance and looks all should all be considered. There are a number of suitable materials you could use to construct a fence, but a concrete fence is the best overall choice. Here are some reasons why.
Durability
A fence made of concrete is both strong and long-lasting, especially in comparison to a fence made of wood. Concrete was invented by the Romans several thousand years ago. Many examples of Roman concrete still stand today. The same cannot be said of any wooden structures they built.
Security
Concrete is an excellent choice to provide security, especially in comparison to chain-link material. In order to provide protection similar to that of a concrete barrier, a chain-link fence must be topped with razor wire. You can even make a concrete fence more secure by adding wrought iron or steel points to the top. These not only provide additional protection, they are much more attractive than razor wire.
Fire-resistance
If you live in an area plagued with brush fires, a fence made of concrete can provide a barrier that can save your property or even your life. A fence made of concrete can never burn and will withstand temperatures well in excess of found in any typical fire.
Sound-resistance
Noises from neighbors or high-traffic areas are significantly reduced using concrete. Compared to fences made from wood or other materials, concrete muffles sound best. It is the material of choice for sound-barriers along highways built next to densely populated areas.
Wind-resistance
A fence made of concrete is strong enough to withstand hurricane-force winds undamaged. Since it is solidly constructed and has no gaps, harsh winds are completely blocked. This is particularly good if you live in an area which is often windy and you seek a peaceful, wind-free area.
Low-maintenance
Almost no maintenance work is required with concrete. An occasional cleaning with a pressure washer may be needed to remove dirt, dust or bird droppings that may have accumulated over time.
It is totally termite free.
Since no part of a concrete fence is wooden, there is no need to worry about termites.
It comes in a variety of styles and colors.
A concrete fence can be custom-made in a large variety of colors, designs and accents. Tints and pigments are added during the casting process to ensure consistency. Concrete can even be cast to mimic stone, brick or wood.
It increases property value.
A fence made of concrete can add to the value of your home. This is especially true if its color and design accents and complements the color and the design of your home.
With qualities that exceed those of many other fencing materials, concrete is the ideal choice for your next fence.
