Does your patio cover keep you cool during the hot Fort Worth summer months? Does it let you relax in the shade while visiting with friends and family?
Among our customers one of our most popular purchases are patio covers, Fort Worth has some of the hottest summer weather in the United States and being in the shade can make up to a 10 degree difference in temperature. But, if you don’t take care of your patio cover, it can get damaged and have to be replaced. One good way to take care of it is to clean it the right way.
Here are some tips for cleaning your patio cover:
Always check the manufacturer’s tag that comes on the patio covers.
Pay attention to the materials that the patio covers are made of.
Avoid any products that could damage the outside and the inside of the patio covers.
Presoak Your Patio Cover, Fort Worth Weather Soaks Up Water Fast A very useful tip to cleaning your patio covers is to presoak them. Just spraying them with a hose and letting the water set on them for a little while usually works, but you might also put them in the bathtub or an outside container that will hold enough water to cover them.
The amount of time that you let them sit with the water on them will depend on the weather outside. If the temperature is too hot, then the water will not stay on the patio covers very long. However, if the temperature is mild, then you will be able to let the water sit a little longer on the patio covers.
Deep Cleaning Your Patio Covers For an in depth clean, you can use a wet rag and a mild detergent to wash the outsides of the patio covers. Some mild detergents that you could use include Dawn or Tide.
You will not need to use a great deal of detergent as the internal materials of the patio covers will tend to soak up anything you put on them. You certainly don’t want to worry about the soap coming out in the next rain, especially if you are under it.
If you find there is any mold on your patio covers, you can use a small bit of bleach, but remember to use it sparingly.
Low Maintenance Monthly Spraying Once a month, you should spray down the patio covers. By spraying them you will remove a great deal of dirt and dust that has accumulated. This will improve the longevity of the patio covers. Monthly spraying will give you more time between in-depth cleanings, too and that is always a plus.
Patio covers are a great purchase for anyone that wants to spend a lot of time outside in the Fort Worth sun, but remember that same sun can cook any spots or dirt further into your cover, so it is important to give it regular maintenance. As long as you keep an eye on it, your cover should last several years. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, email, or call, we are more than happy to help.
