Andersen 400 Series Doors

Andersen’s 400 Series patio doors are available in two styles; Frenchwood hinged in-swing or Frenchwood gliding doors. They are among Andersen’s most popular patio doors and a favorite with North Texas residents. The doors feature wide profiles, come in multiple panel configurations, and are available in custom sizes with a variety of options. All 400 Series doors are crafted from wood with vinyl exteriors and have the option of built-in blinds between the glass.

What is the Warranty on Andersen 400 Series Doors?

The 400 Series patio door warranty coverage begins at the time of purchase and uses the same warranty plan for the 400 Series windows. It is referred to as an Owner2Owner plan meaning that if you sell your house, the remaining duration on the plan passes onto the next homeowner. It is a limited warranty with most parts having a specific period of coverage and only covers issues relating to manufacturing defects, workmanship, or materials. In other words, if the damage isn’t the result of an issue related to something that happened at the time the door was made, it is likely not covered. There are also specific exclusions for each section as well as general exclusions that apply to the entire door unit. You should read through the entire agreement and contact Andersen or an authorized dealer if you have questions concerning the warranty protection plan.

What Does Andersen’s Glass Warranty Cover for 400 Series Doors?

  • Glass Coverage: 20 Years
  • Seal Failure/obscurement: 20 Years
  • Organic Seal Failure: 20 Years

The glass package is the first section of the warranty plan. It guarantees that there will be no issues with the glass developing stress cracks, problems in material appearance, or visibility under normal conditions for a period of 20 years from the date of purchase. This includes grilles and organic seals. The agreement specifically lists all of the covered glass packages and options such as patterned glass.

Special glazing, art glass, insulated glass, and impact-resistant glass are excluded in this section. You should carefully examine the exclusions for the full terms. If you are considering an option that is not covered in this part of the warranty, you should find out if separate coverage is offered on those features.

What Does Andersen’s Parts Warranty Cover for 400 Series Doors?

  • Non-glass Components: 10 Years
  • Wood Parts: 5 Years
  • Patio Doors with Built-in Blinds or Shades: 5 Years

Non-glass parts such as non-electric operators, locks, hinges, insect screens, and other hardware are warranted to be free from defects for ten years. Wood exterior parts are warranted for only five years. Electric operators, retractable insect screens, and specific finishes are excluded. You should review this section carefully to determine what parts are and are not included. If a feature you are interested in is listed as an exclusion, you should consult your dealer to find out if alternate warranty coverage is available. Patio doors with shades or blinds between insulated glass are covered in the following section. In general, all parts relevant to these features are protected by the agreement for ten years.

What is NOT Included in the Limited Warranty for 400 Series Doors?

Although each section has specific exclusions, there is a special section in the agreement that covers installation and the door as a whole. This agreement does not cover handling, delivery, or installation. Here are a few of the additional exclusions. Please see the contract for a complete list.

  • Product modifications or shading devices (tinting, security systems, improper painting/staining)
  • Improper assembly/mulling
  • Improper installation
  • Condensation
  • products not manufactured by Andersen
  • Third party-hardware
  • Adjustments or corrections resulting from improper installation
  • Improper maintenance
  • Labor for replacement installations or repairs
  • Accidents

How Do I File a Warranty Claim for 400 Series Doors?

Contact information is provided in the agreement. If you need to file a warranty claim, you will need to contact the manufacturer or the authorized dealer you purchased your patio door from. Include the following information when submitting your claim:

  • Your contact information
  • The model and description of your windows
  • Details of the issue
  • Documentation of purchase date

Andersen has three options for resolving your claim. The company will either send replacement parts, authorize a factory repair, or provide a refund. Andersen has sole authority in deciding how to resolve your situation. You should read through these options in each section and the Warranty Claim Procedures at the end of the contract for full details. Additionally, you should do the following:

  • Review the warranty
  • Review the dispute resolution agreement
  • Review the opt-out instructions concerning your legal rights
  • Register your warranty following the instructions in the contract

Dispute Resolution

In the event that you file a claim and are unhappy with the resolution, you have the right to file a dispute through the manufacturer. Instructions for how to do this are provided at the end of the agreement and an 800 number is provided if you have questions. You must use a special form found on the website and file the dispute in writing. Andersen then has 60 days to reply to your concerns in writing.

Understanding the warranty coverage for your patio doors will help you avoid unexpected surprises if you have issues after the installation. It is a good idea to understand the terms, duration of each part of the plan, and any exclusions that may apply to your new doors in advance. Always contact the manufacturer or your dealer if you have questions concerning the plan.
