What is the Warranty on Andersen 400 Series Windows?

Home improvements are an exciting way to add value to your home. Most homeowners choose to upgrade their kitchens and bathrooms and those are extremely valuable and functional choices but window upgrades can also be valuable. In fact, an Andersen survey found that realtors and homeowners agree that Andersen® products increase the value of a home by at least 10%.

If you're upgrading your windows, it’s beneficial to think about the value of a good warranty. Warranties aren’t a make-it or break-it factor but they should be part of your decision-making process. Why? Because registered warranties can come in handy if problems develop after the installation. Andersen is an industry leader and popular choice for North Texas residents. In this post, we will examine the warranty for their 400-series windows in detail.

The information in this post is a walkthrough of the main points of the warranty for Andersen’s 400-series windows. It is intended for reference purposes only. You should read through the warranty agreement in full and consult your Andersen Windows dealer or the manufacturer directly if you have any questions regarding the coverage provided.

Andersen 400 Series Windows

Andersen’s 400 Series blends performance and style. It is the most popular of the company’s product lines nationally and a top seller in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. There are seven different window styles available in the 400 Series, including picture, double-hung, Woodwright double-hung, casement, awning, gliding, and specialty-shaped windows. They feature wooden frames and are vinyl-clad with seven exterior colors and four interior colors available with a wide choice of energy-efficient glass packages.

What is the Warranty on Andersen 400 Series Windows?

  • Type of Warranty: Limited
  • Transferrable: Yes

The 400 Series offers the same Owner2Owner limited warranty coverage as the 200 Series. All of Andersen’s product lines have a transferable warranty. That means if you sell your house before the protection expires, the new owner receives the benefits of the remaining duration of the coverage. The warranty protection begins at the time of purchase and not installation. A warranty is designed to guarantee that the product is free from defects and is not the same as insurance. Only issues that are the results of defective workmanship, manufacturing, or materials are covered. It is important to note that there are some exclusions in the warranty plan.

What Does Andersen’s Glass Warranty Cover for 400 Series Windows?

  • Glass Coverage: 20 Years
  • Seal Failure/Obscurement: 20 Years
  • Organic Seal Failure: 20 years

The warranty contract is broken down into different sections with different time periods for each component of the window unit. This section covers the glass package. The glass is guaranteed to be free from the defects noted above for 20 years. If the glass cracks because of imperfection during that time, the warranty will cover the repairs. If you hit a rock with your lawnmower and it shatters the window, the damage would be covered by your homeowner’s insurance and not the warranty.

Additionally, seal failure and defects that result in vision obscurement are also covered for 20 years. If these conditions develop, the manufacturer will repair or replace the glass. We’ll discuss the options and how they are determined below. Certain types of glass, such as art glass and blinds between the glass, are not covered. You should read this section of the agreement carefully for a complete list of exclusions and talk to your dealer about any questions you have regarding the coverage of the glass package in your windows.

What Does Andersen’s Parts Warranty Cover for 400 Series Windows?

  • Non-glass Components: 10 years
  • Wood Exterior: 5 years

Andersen refers to all other parts of the window assembly as “components other than glass.” Examples of these parts include non-electric operators, locks, lifts, balance systems, hinges, handles insect screens, weatherstripping, exterior trim, sash, and frame members. These items are covered for a period of 10 years from the time of purchase. Wood exteriors have the same coverage as the parts above but are limited to only 5 years. Retractable insect screens and electric operators are excluded from the coverage. If your windows include these features, you should check with your vendor or the manufacturer to find out if there is a separate warranty for these particular features.

What is NOT Included in the Limited Warranty for 400 Series Windows?

Although there are specific exclusions in each section, the warranty terms have a general section of exclusions that apply to all of the assembly components. There is also a follow-up section that includes additional specific exclusions. You must read these sections carefully to make sure you understand what is not covered in your agreement. If you have any concerns about any exclusions, you should contact either the manufacturer or your authorized dealer. Below are some of the significant points you should understand.

  • Product modifications or shading devices (tinting, security systems, improper painting/staining)
  • Improper assembly/mulling
  • Installation of non-Andersen parts/hardware
  • improper installation
  • Condensation
  • Delivery or installation by non-factory certified crews
  • Labor
  • Minor warping or stress cracks
  • products not manufactured by Andersen

It is important to note that this agreement does not cover installation or labor.

How Do I File a Warranty Claim for Andersen 400 Series Windows?

It is critical that you register your warranty after your windows are installed. It is important to note that doing activates the coverage. There is a section in the contract that states that if you accept the terms, you waive your right to a jury trial or join a class-action lawsuit. Instructions for how to opt out of these terms are included in the dispute section. You should read the instructions carefully and complete the form online at the time you register.

To file a claim, you should contact the dealer or the manufacturer directly. Contact information and instructions for filing a warranty claim directly with Andersen Windows is provided on the website. You will need to provide the following:

  • Your contact information
  • The model and description of your windows
  • Details of the issue
  • Documentation of purchase date

If your claim is covered, Andersen has three options for resolving the situation. At its discretion, it may send replacement parts, authorize a factory repair, or provide a refund. You should carefully review the terms of each section for the terms of these options. It is important to note that in some cases, labor, disposal of defective parts, and refinishing of the unit may not be included. You should check the details regarding your specific claim under the relevant section.

Dispute Resolution

If you are unhappy with how your warranty claim is handled or it is denied, you have the right to appeal the company’s decision. To do so, you should contact the company in writing. A form is available on the manufacturer’s website. The address is provided under the dispute section of the agreement. Andersen has up to 60 days to respond to your complaint in writing.

You should carefully read the warranty agreement before purchasing any replacement windows. By understanding the elements of coverage, you’ll know what to expect should a problem arise later.
