How Much Do 60" x 80" Exterior French Doors Cost in Dallas Fort Worth, Texas?

How much do 60” x 80” exterior french doors cost?

We’ve answered this question thousands of times over the years, and these days, hundreds of DFW homeowners are asking us every month. We get it, price is important, and the price often dictates what type of door and door options you consider.

It’s tough to answer this question right off the bat because french doors have so many options that impact the final price. However, we’ve built seven 60” x 80” french patio doors from Andersen & Sierra Pacific to help you plan your project.

Please keep in mind that all prices, whether Andersen or Sierra Pacific, do not include taxes, installation, or other upgrades. Prices can and very often do change drastically based on seemingly simple changes like hardware style, exterior color, wood-grain, trim, and more.

How much are 60” x 80” wood-clad exterior french doors?

Most 60" x 80" exterior replacement french doors will cost $4,300 to $7,000+ in 2022 – this price includes operational hardware, base glass package, and standard finishes such as base colors and finishes.

As with any home improvement project, the price range can increase dramatically as you choose different design options or upgrade performance, which might include selecting a premium timber option (Fir, Oak, Mahogany, etc.), including smart door hardware from Yale, or including clad decorative brickmould, and so on.

Should you buy exterior french patio doors or sliding patio doors?

We get this question a lot during patio door consults, and the answer boils down to what you want and how much you’re willing to pay for it.

Most of the time you should replace your existing patio door with the same type. Meaning, if your current patio door is a slider, replace it with another slider to save on door and labor costs. Sliding and hinged patio doors have different frame profiles, so converting a sliding door to a hinged patio door will require either a larger opening to accommodate the same amount of glass or will require a custom-sized hinged door that will have less glass.

Let’s say you’re expanding from a single-hinged patio door to a two-panel door, all of the options are on the table because you’re going to frame a new opening regardless of the door type. In this scenario, you’ll want to evaluate budget and furniture location to determine which patio door type is the right choice.

We find that sliding doors usually win out in a head-to-head comparison because you typically get more glass, less frame, a screen, and you don’t have to think about furniture placement.

Inswing vs outswing exterior doors

When looking at 60” x 80” exterior french doors in Dallas Fort Worth, you’ll need to decide on inswing or outswing patio door operation. We’ve written an extensive article going into detail on this topic here (Should I Get Inswing or Outswing Patio Doors For My Home).

To summarize, our opinion on inswing vs outswing exterior doors boils down to efficiency & furniture placement. Outswing doors are thought to be more weather-resistance because, in the case of high winds and driving rain, the wind presses the door into its weather stripping vs an inswing door that is being pushed away from weatherstripping. If you have patio furniture near the opening of your patio door, an inswing door may be a better option so you aren’t opening a door onto a piece of furniture. If you have interior furniture to consider, an outswing may be a better choice.

Prices for other patio door options

Interior frame upgrades to other timber species, such as Oak, Fir, or Mahogany, or interior paint can cost between $750 - $2,000+. We recommend having your doors painted by the manufacturer, but it does increase the price.

Grid or grille options can range from $750 - $2,500+ depending on type, width, and pattern. Full divided lights will cost more than internal grids. Simple grid patterns cost less than complex patterns.

Insect screens, whether hinged or retractable, will add at least $1,000 to your order. We recommend retractable screens when possible for a clean, finished look. After-market screens are available if you opt for no screen on your original order.

Custom sizing resets the pricing table. You can expect the maximum width for a two-panel french exterior patio door will max out around 76" while some doors can be built up to 120" tall. Prices for oversized hinged patio doors this size can easily cost $10,000 - $15,000+.

Again, everything here is simply an estimate, and your final price may look much different. I hope you've developed a better feel for the potential costs of installing a 60" x 80" exterior french door in Dallas Fort Worth, including the overall door options price range, and what to expect when you start going through the patio door buying process.
