A report just came out of Illinois stating that the state's attorney general's office has filed lawsuits against 5 home repair businesses for defrauding homeowners out of of $365,000. Some of the fradulent companies and the activities they were accused of include:
- A roofing company that disappeared for weeks after contracting services with homeowners.
- A home improvement company that hounded consumers for payment despite performing no work, in addition to offering unlicensed adjusting services.
- And last and most certainly least, an asphault company that solicited senior citizens for asphault work. After the customers paid the contractor, the company demanded thousands of additional dollars with verbal and physical intimidation.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan stated "In all of these cases, there were red-flag warnings that the contractors were up to no good. Any time a repair company solicits door to door or uses high-pressure tactics to sign up customers, it’s a signal that something is wrong...Do your homework and ask plenty of questions before signing anything.”
