What is the Warranty on Andersen 200 Series Doors?

The 200 Series limited warranty plan covers both doors and windows as well as products in the 400 Series. The coverage is fully transferable if you sell your home before the warranty runs out. Andersen refers to this as Owner2Owner coverage. A limited warranty plan is one that has specific conditions such as expiration dates or certain criteria that must be met in order for the warranty to apply. The purpose of a warranty is to give homeowners peace of mind that their new patio doors will not develop any issues under normal conditions for a reasonable period of time. It is crucial to understand that this guarantee only covers issues resulting from defects in manufacturing, workmanship, or materials. It does not cover accidents or normal wear and tear and coverage begins at the time of purchase, not when the doors are installed.

What Does Andersen’s Glass Warranty Cover for 200 Series Doors?

  • Glass Coverage: 20 Years
  • Seal Failure/obscurement: 20 Years
  • Organic Seal Failure: 20 Years

Andersen’s warranty plans do not provide blanket coverage. Instead, there are separate sections of the agreement each with its own parts for various components of the patio door. The first section deals with the glass, seals, and grilles (if installed). It promises that the glass, organic seals, and grilles will be free from defects for a period of 20 years and that there will not be a material change in appearance, stress cracks, or visibility issues such as discoloration or fogginess within this time period. The warranty guarantee lists all of the glass packages including options like patterned glass. The agreement has exclusions for special glazings, impact-resistant glass, insulated glass, and built-in blinds between the glass. You should check the warranty to see if these features are covered in other sections or ask your dealer if a separate warranty is available.

What Does Andersen’s Parts Warranty Cover for 200 Series Doors?

  • Wood Exterior: 5 Years
  • Other Non-glass Components: 10 Years
  • Shades or Blinds Between Glass: 10 Years

The rest of the non-glass parts are covered under the “components other than glass” section. This includes most of the hardware, frame, exterior, and other parts. You should read through this section to understand what parts are included. The items listed in this section are covered for ten years except for wooden exterior components which are only protected for a period of five years. Electric window operators, retractable insect screens, and certain finishes are excluded in this section. There is a separate section specific to patio doors with shades or blinds between insulated glass. These specific components are protected for a period of 10 years.

What is NOT Included in the Warranty for 200 Series Doors?

Each section of the warranty mentions any applicable exclusions. However, there is a section of general and additional exclusions near the end of the agreement. These exclusions apply to the patio door assembly as a whole and cover things related to maintenance, installation, and modification. It is important to note that installation and labor including the delivery of your patio doors are not covered here.

Some of the exclusions include:

  • Any type of modifications
  • Any additions such as third-party hardware
  • Using an unapproved 3rd party contractor for installation, assembly, or delivery
  • Improper installation
  • Removing the door and installing it on another building
  • Using a residential grade window unit on a commercial building

For a complete list of exclusions, please check the warranty agreement.

How Do I File a Warranty Claim for 200 Series Doors?

To file a warranty claim, you will need to contact the dealer you purchased your patio door from or reach out to the manufacturer directly. All of the relevant contact information is provided in the contract. You should download the appropriate form from Andersen’s website and provide the following information:

  • Your contact information
  • The product information
  • Information etched in the corner of the glass
  • Purchase documentation
  • A description of the problem

There is also information on how to use a factory-certified repair service for work not covered by the warranty. If your claim is covered, Andersen will either send a replacement part, authorize a repair from a trained technician, or offer you a refund. The company has the final say on which of these options it uses.

Dispute Resolution

If you are unhappy with your warranty claim, there is a dispute process and phone number listed at the end of the warranty plan. You must submit your complaint in writing using a form available on Andersen’s website. The company then has 60 days to reply to your dispute in writing. By accepting the warranty terms, it is important to note that you waive your right to a jury trial or class action suit. An option to opt-out of this stipulation is provided. You should carefully read this section and use the opt-out form available on the site to preserve your legal rights. Doing so will not affect or invalidate your warranty protection.

As you can see, understanding the warranty on your patio doors is a crucial aspect of your purchasing decision. Most warranty agreements are available on the manufacturer’s websites. You can use what you learned here to evaluate the quality of each agreement to help you in making an informed purchasing decision.
