Windows make a big difference in your home. Contemporary homes typically have large windows to maximize views and bring in lots of natural light. Not all windows are the same so in this post, we’ll compare two contemporary window options from Milgard: Milgard Trinsic vs Ultra Windows.
You can use the links below to skip ahead to a particular section or visit each series’ product page to download a brochure (one brochure from each series will detail all the windows in the collection).
The difference in frame material matters both for energy efficiency and for your budget. Milgard’s Trinsic windows are made from vinyl while Ultra series windows are made of fiberglass.
Fiberglass windows are regarded as being more energy-efficient than vinyl windows. Windows made from fiberglass do not expand or contract like frames made from other materials. Fiberglass windows are primarily made from glass fibers and as such any expansion or contraction occurs at similar rates making it less likely for the window to experience seal failure. When seals fail condensation can form between the window panes and the glass unit becomes less efficient.
Vinyl windows, however, also have many advantages including its energy-efficiency, low-maintenance, and lower cost.

Color matters. For many homeowners, color options guide their window buying journey because not all manufacturers offer the same colors. Even within Milgard’s brand, different colors are available from vinyl and fiberglass windows.
Fiberglass Ultra windows will either have powder-coated or wet-coated applications while vinyl Trinsic window colors are applied with a special coating technology that preserves the exterior finish. When comparing Trinsic and Ultra windows you’ll notice that Trinsic windows are available in more color options but you’ll only be able to get a dark interior and dark exterior, similar to the popular black-black, with the Ultra series.

The most common window styles in the US are available from Milgard. The biggest difference between Trinsic and Ultra window styles is that the Trinsic series offers a double horizontal sliding window while the Ultra series does not. Double horizontal sliders have two operable sashes and a fixed sash in the center. On the other hand, the Ultra series offers a bay and bow style window that is not available in the Trinsic series.
For a clear view of the difference between these windows, you’ll want to schedule a consultation or visit a showroom.

Milgard Trinsic and Ultra windows have different window lock options. Trinsic windows feature easy-to-operate SmartTouch® locks with a sleek, low-profile design and Ultra windows are available with cam locks or Positive Action locks.
Lock hardware options for Ultra are beautiful and available in additional finishes but the Trinsic series’ hardware is a great option for homeowners who prefer hardware that is hardly visible.

Choose a window collection based on your preference of style, color, and budget. In terms of style for the most contemporary slim frames you may prefer the Trinsic series but remember the Trinsic series is not available with dark interior colors. The Ultra series is available in fewer colors but it is also available in the popular dark interior and exterior option. The Ultra series would be a good option if you want the contemporary colors and like the bolder more traditional look of a wood profile that happens to be made from fiberglass.
As for price, the best way to get a fair understanding of price is to request estimates for your anticipated project. Pricing can change depending on the scope of your project and the size and customizations of the windows. Typically fiberglass windows are more expensive than vinyl windows.
